Diane Reese
2003-2004
In June 1979, Soror Reese was
initiated into the Delta Nu Chapter at Savannah State University
(formally Savannah State College). She served as Recording
Secretary and Parliamentarian. She was voted Miss Delta Nu in
1980. In 1990, she joined the Northern Virginia Alumnae
Chapter. In 1999, Soror Reese was welcomed into the Fairfax
County Alumnae Chapter where she currently serves as the Program
Coordinator for the Betty Shabezz Delta Academy now in its third
year under Soror Reese.
Soror Reese’s professional career
and public service have focused on youth. Much of this work
allowed her to work specifically with adolescent girls. Her
extensive work with adolescent girls has placed her in a
position to direct the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter’s Betty
Shabazz Delta Academy.
Soror Reese is married to James R.
Reese, III. They have three daughters; Brandi Shannon, and
Leah. Soror Reese serves as the Director of Guidance at the
Secondary Training and Education Program (STEP Center) with the
Alexandria city Public Schools. She sponsors an adolescent
girls leadership group as well as co-sponsors a book club at her
school. She has served on numerous boards and task forces in
the City of Alexandria and Fairfax County. She holds national
certifications in the counseling profession as well as
membership in various counseling associations. She is an active
member of Greater Little Zion Baptist church serving in various
ministerial capacities.
Soror Reese holds an M.S. in
Criminal Justice, M.A. in Management, M.A. in School Counseling,
and is currently pursuing her PH.D. in Counseling with an
endorsement in Administration and Supervision. She was
nominated by the Alexandria Commission for Women’s Youth
Services Award.
She enjoys reading and writing in
her spare time. Her life-long dram is to write books will focus
on African American women. She also plans to continue her
research beyond her PhD making literary contributions to the
counseling profession.
