Estella Holliday
2006-2007
The Delta of the Year award is
given annually in the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter (FCAC) to
honor a dynamic Delta who has demonstrated a significant
commitment to the chapter and has gone above and beyond the call
of Delta. FCAC is very proud to honor Soror Estella Duncan
Holliday as Delta of the Year for the sorority year 2006-2007.
Soror Estella Duncan Holliday is
a native of Southern California. She was born in Hollywood,
California to Joseph and Eleanor Duncan. She is the middle
child. She attended Pomona Schools and graduated from Ganesha
High School at the age of 16. She attended the University of
LaVerne where she graduated with a B.S. Degree in Behavioral
Sciences. While attending the University of LaVerne she was a
member of the Black Student Union from whom she was awarded the
Outstanding Community Service award. Also during her college
years, she served as a Girl Scout Leader to a group of
elementary school girls who would not have had the experience of
scouting without her leadership. She was a member of a study
tour that traveled to Senegal and Gambia, West Africa. Soror
Holliday earned her Master’s Degree in Human Resources
Management from the University of Redlands. She is married to
Anthony S. Holliday and they are the proud parents of two
teenagers, Eleanor and Anthony.
In June of 1977, Soror Holliday
was initiated into Theta Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. Theta Psi was the city wide chapter that was
available for members who attended universities without a campus
based chapter. Soror Holliday is a Legacy and her mother has
been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for over 50 years.
Her sister Rev. Eva Duncan is also a Delta. She is a Charter
Member of the Pomona Valley Alumnae Chapter and served as both
the First and Second Vice Presidents. She was the Charter
Advisor to Xi Xi Chapter at Cal Poly Pomona. In addition to
Pomona Valley Alumnae, Soror Holliday has been a member of
Hawaii Alumnae and Ventura County Alumnae. When she moved to
Virginia she affiliated with the Fairfax County Alumnae. As a
member she has served as Chairperson of the Ways and Means
committee for the last four years. She has also served on the
May Week, Scholarship, Program, Planning and Development and
Finance committees as well as a member of the Executive Board.
Her community service involvement
includes: Serving as a Girl Scout Leader for the last eight
years, Chairperson of the Association 50 and 56 Adult
Recognition Committees of Girl Scout Council of the Nations
Capital, Member of the Association 56 Nominating and Referral
Committee; Member of Jack & Jill of America where she served as
the Financial Secretary and Chairperson of the Ways and Means
Committee, Teen Advisor, member of the Scholarship, Hospitality,
Budget and Committees; Chantilly Pyramid Minority Achievement
Representative; Principal Selection Committee for Westfield
High School; and Board Member for the Arts Council of Fairfax
County.
Soror began her professional
career with General Telephone and Electronics in California.
She held a variety of increasingly responsible positions in the
areas of Supervision, Career Development and Human Resources.
She worked in various locations in California and Hawaii. She
transferred to GTE Government Systems in Virginia which was
later purchased by General Dynamics. She currently serves as
the Director of Human Resources for the National and Defense
Information Solutions Division of General Dynamics Information
Technology. She is responsible for directing the Human Resources
support to over 3,000 employees. Her professional
organizations include: The Society for Human Resources
Management, the American Society for Training and Development,
and the National Foreign Trade Council where serves on the
International Assignment Management Committee.
Soror Holliday is a life long
member of the A.M.E Church where she has served as Sunday School
Teacher and Superintendent, Choir Member, a member of the
Pastor’s Aide Society and Women’s Missionary Society. She is a
member of First A.M.E. Church in Manassas.
Soror Holliday’s hobbies include
needlepoint and reading.
