Beverly
B. Thornton
2001-2002
The Delta
of the Year award is given annually in the Fairfax County
Alumnae Chapter (FCAC) to honor a dynamic Delta who has demonstrated
a significant commitment to the chapter and has gone above
and beyond the call of Delta.
FCAC is very proud to honor Soror Beverly B. Thornton
as Delta of the Year
for the 2001 sorority year.
In 1979, Soror
Thornton was initiated into the Pine Bluff (AK) Alumnae Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She served
as Corresponding Secretary and was chairperson of the Ways and Means
committee. Later, she
moved to Jacksonville, Florida and joined the Jacksonville Alumnae
chapter, where she would serve as the Keeper of Properties and
assistant Financial Secretary.
Over the years
Soror Thornton’s dedication and leadership has also been exemplary
through her family. While
residing in Atlanta, she devoted much of her time to being a mother
and wife, and now has a daughter in college. Despite her residence in four different cities over the
past several years, Soror Thornton has always found a home in Delta. -- “Another great thing about our sisterhood, I have
found that with every relocation, you know you have Delta sisters
awaiting you in the new city.”
In 1998 FCAC was
privileged to welcome Soror Beverly Thornton to our chapter and back
to Delta. In just her
first year with us, she became co-chairperson of the Ways and Means
committee, was a key asset to the success of the
Masquerade
Ball and Art Auction, and has demonstrated nothing short of
genuine leadership thereafter.
As Assistant Financial Secretary, a member of the Minerva
Circle and numerous committees, Soror Thornton’s success is
endless. She has always
given her all in everything that she does, and is willing to assist
any Soror or committee that asks.
In addition to the
many “hats” she wears, Soror Thornton continues to embrace us
with her bright smile and her joyful spirit as a member of the
Sunshine committee. She
takes pride in her duty of sending greeting cards to Sorors and
their families for all occasions.
As Accessory Coordinator for our chapter’s Change
II program, Soror Thornton enjoys utilizing her manual
dexterity. She also enjoys making and sharing crafts, as
much of her work can be found in the homes of many sorors.
On behalf of FCAC,
congratulations Soror Thornton for going above and beyond the call
of Delta!
